Kansas City’s World War 1 Memorial - February 1, 2007

ww1-poppies-web-0230.jpgPhoebe and I visited my daughter over the holidays in Kansas City, Mo. One of the places she took us to was the newly remodeled World War 1 Memorial. The photo is a shot of poppies that you see when you first walk into the gallery. You walk over a clear plexi-glass bridge, its very strange because you feel that you are suspended over mid air while looking down at a bed of poppies. The sad thing is, there are 9000 plants, each poppy represents 1000 deaths. Total killed in the war…9 million. Makes ya think about what Bush is doing…

I am just grateful that if we were to create an Iraq war memorial in a similar manner, we wouldn’t be able to populate it with nearly as many poppies with that ratio.
